Brodie's Ordeal

Page 3

On Sunday, September 22nd, we made our third trip to WSU.
We always stayed at the Holiday Inn in Pullman and they were always so friendly.
They even gave me discounts for being a client of the WSU Vet School.

On Monday, Brodie had a pre-surgery examination.
On Tuesday the 24th, Dr. Mison at WSU performed a surgical rhinotomy and frontal sinus debridement.
Brodie was under anesthesia for over 3 hours.

Here's a close-up of Brodie's nose prior to the surgery.
Notice the loss of pigmentation which is a characteristic of Aspergillosis.

A section of bone from his frontal sinus (the incision was between his eyes)
was removed so Dr. Mison could get into Brodie's sinus and clean it out.

They found a lot of destruction in Brodie's sinus.
The turbinate bones were almost totally destroyed.

More of what they found and removed from Brodie's sinus passage.
However, no evidence of a foreign body was found.

The day after Brodie's surgery, I was allowed to visit him.
Here he is with his surgical scar and a tube surgically implanted into his sinus.

The tube is used for the fungal treatment, which would take place on Friday, the 27th.
Brodie was under anesthesia for another 3 hours.

Here is Brodie with his buzz cut shave. He is still a ham for the camera.

Venus was so happy to see her brother.

Brodie and Venus during one of our visits.
Brodie really liked being able to get out of ICU and spend some time in the fresh air.
